We need an amazing COMMUNICATIONS & Public Relations Professional

 

Are you public relations savvy, a strong writer and possess above average knowledge around climate change issues and/or ESG?  Do you have a keen interest in corporate climate change strategy and how ESG is changing financial models, with more than 4 years experience as a Comms professional? If so, this role is for you.

 

We are looking for an accomplished Communications & PR professional to be an integral member of Competent Boards‘ management team. To be successful in this new role, you will use all the tools in your toolbox to build, maintain and manage awareness of Competent Boards’ work and brand while overseeing our small Communications team. You’ll help create and communicate key messages to defined target audiences in order to help establish and maintain a global leading position for our fast-growing, mission-based company.

 

This is a key role that requires a balance of public relations and communication experience with a strong roll-up your sleeves and ‘get it done’ mentality. We’re a smart, collaborative team helping to conquer big global challenges. In this role you’ll drive effective storytelling and outreach with multiple, cross-functional stakeholders, including the media, program participants, potential partners, subject matter experts, and company leadership.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Identify and coordinate media opportunities that are both strategic and creative to raise awareness of the company’s flagship products and thought leadership to appropriate target markets.
  • Regularly solicit op-eds, and notable developments or achievements to the news media.
  • Oversee development of a Comms plan including promotional materials, such as marketing collateral, press kits, slide decks, and other PR-related collateral.
  • Work with communications team and plan and direct content strategy for website and social channels.
  • Direct and oversee the work of the Communications team; manage and provide coaching to optimize performance; foster ongoing learning and development within the team.

  • Develop a plan to amplify CEO’s new book and work with the publicist to maximize pre-order sales.

  • Establish criteria for creating and/or selecting speaking engagements presented to leadership and develop public relations plans around events in which we participate.

  • Develop a stakeholder management process by creating and maintaining a contact database and a communication plan that targets key stakeholder groups.
  • Write press releases and other media communications as needed.
  • Develop media and partner lists to approach to amplify our messaging.

 

Requirements

  • 4 years of relevant work experience with demonstrated skills in communications and public relations, and above-average knowledge of climate change and business.
  • University degree in PR, Communications, International Relations, Journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent writing skills and a flair for copywriting.
  • Ability to think both creatively and strategically to help support business development.

  • Ability to collaborate and be able to mentor less experienced Comms team members
  • Previous media relations experience and proven ability to cultivate relationships with national and international press.
  • Ability to pitch the media and to run PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet objectives.
  • Experience providing strategic communications counsel to C-level leadership and all levels of staff.

  • Experience in market and competitive analysis (identifying competitors; tracking and increasing the share of voice).
  • Ability to prioritize and plan effectively.
  • Possess a growth mindset and a passion for mentorship.

  • Ability to build and manage an effective team.
