Alumni spotlight, August 2022: Amita Chaudhury, Anna Murray and Anar Popatia
Sometimes it is hard for us to keep up with all the amazing work and achievements of our graduates. Here are another three making an impact in their careers.
We have two of our 2021 Climate Designation Program graduates to celebrate this month: Amita Chaudhury, CCB.D, and Anna Murray, CCB.D. Amita has just been shortlisted for the Chief Sustainability Officer of the Year award by Sustainability Leaders. This award recognizes and celebrates social and corporate sustainability progress and impact in 2022.
This is not the first nomination for Anita. Previously, Unilever awarded her the Compass CEO award (its highest internal recognition) for her work in sustainability and in 2018 she received the “Leading Woman in Sustainability” award from the World Business Council of Sustainable Development.
Amita has spent the past 20 years leading brands, diversity and inclusion, purpose and sustainability for organizations in Singapore, London and India. She is passionate about delivering business value through making a positive impact for the planet and society.
Congratulations are in order for Anna Murray for her recent appointment to the board of directors at the Responsible Investment Association. Anna is Managing Director, Global Head of ESG for SLC Management. There, she oversees the firm’s sustainable investing team to integrate ESG risk management and value creation practices into investment decisions and management across the firm’s global investment platform.
“I’m honored to join the Responsible Investment Association board of directors alongside this exceptional group,” said Anna. “I look forward to serving my fellow members with the mandate to promote responsible investment in Canada’s retail and institutional markets.”
Prior to joining SLC, Anna spent her career advancing corporate strategy around the globe at major multinationals. She is also Co-Chair of the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) Real Estate Advisory Committee, Founder of the non-profit Young Women in Energy and Co-Chair of the Environmental Committee at the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA).
Finally, kudos is due (again) to Anar Popatia, GCB.D. She has just been appointed as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Audit Committee. This comes shortly after her board appointment with the Land Title & Survey Authority of BC.
In her new role with the RCMP, Anar will provide objective advice and recommendations to the deputy head on the sufficiency, quality and results of internal audit engagements as they relate to the department’s frameworks and processes for risk management, control and governance.
With her 20-plus years of leadership experience in corporate governance, international business, strategic consulting and stakeholder engagement, as well as her ESG expertise, Anar will be an invaluable addition to the RCMP Audit Committee team.
We look forward to celebrating more of our alumni making a difference in the business world soon.
