The Climate Competent Boards Program aims to give Board Directors, Business Leaders and Practitioners an in-depth understanding of the current challenges and opportunities that climate change and transitioning to net-positive present. This program will examine a range of different tools and approaches from scenario analysis, disclosure expectations, adaptation, mitigation, and transition strategies. What is deemed green now is unlikely to be the same in 2 , 5, or 10 years time: Is your business and board adequately prepared, and are you asking the right questions to ensure your current goals, targets and business model are future fit?

– The program is divided into two cohorts: one for Board Members, and one for Business Managers.
– A Self-study option is also available to learn on your own schedule.
– 6 sessions at 90 minutes each, plus approximately 90-minutes of preparation time/materials per session (videos, case studies, targeted discussion questions and recommended reading lists).
– Each session will require a total investment of approximately 180 minutes.
– Program registration is capped at 36 participants to ensure a rich opportunity for dialogue.
Understanding Climate Risks and Opportunities: Operating within Planetary and Societal Boundaries and Transitioning to Net Zero
Are you adequately prepared and responding to changes in the regulatory landscape and the growing expectations and demands of all of your stakeholders from climate activists to climate migrants?
How will climate change impact your businesses, supply chains, customers, employees, and the societies you operate in?
This session will give an overview of the growing regulatory and societal demands as well as science underpinning our current trajectory. It will also examine the pivotal role that the board, executives and finance providers must play to future-proof business models and mitigate risk, in line with planetary and societal boundaries.
Reporting and Regulatory Trends: Getting Ahead of the Curve
This session will focus on the fast-evolving regulatory landscape in the lead up to COP26 and the G7 and G20 meetings. What climate policies should you anticipate in the future as many regulations and guidelines move from voluntary to mandatory climate disclosures. What impacts will it have on your business? How can you formulate meaningful net zero goals, targets, and strategies?
Climate Responsible Investment and Insurance
This session will focus on the implications of increasing investor pressures, financial and technological innovations and their implications on your business and on the planet (cost of capital, insurance premiums, etc.). How should you best prepare, engage, and respond to investors and insurers? What are the latest proxy voting trends and how are these becoming a material issue for investors? How should you best prepare, engage, and respond?
Responsible Climate Governance: Ensuring Accountability at the Board Level
Where do you start as a board member? What are the questions you would ask management on their approach towards climate exposure and net zero commitments? How do you ensure board oversight around TCFD+ reporting and scenario analysis? How will the role of the board evolve in the next 1 – 5 – 10 years?
A Guide to Strategic Implementation: How to Put it all into Practice?
This session will feature detailed examples, common pitfalls to avoid and examine trade-offs that are often overlooked when implementing effective climate transition strategies. What are the most effective and credible mitigation, adaptation and draw-down approaches? How do you ensure all employees and suppliers are climate competent?
Learning from the Trailblazers: Practical Advice
This module will feature experiences and lessons learned across a range of different industries and business functions. How to optimize resources and scale your innovation capabilities? How to collaborate / partner with competitors, suppliers and other external organisations?
