Ayman Chowdhury
Director, Programs and Advisory, Competent Boards
Ayman is an experienced and well-regarded sustainability leader in the corporate sector. He holds expertise in advising and managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks for business and leading on and integrating responsible business initiatives into company strategies and operations.
Before joining Competent Boards, Ayman served and led the Canadian chapter of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. He successfully connected Canadian companies and other organizations in a global movement dedicated to driving corporate sustainability using the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ayman guided many organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, on improving commitment and performance on issues related to climate action, gender equality, governance and anti-corruption, and the implementation of the SDGs. During his term as the Head of Secretariat of the UN Global Compact Network Canada, he chaired and co-chaired the preparation of several working series papers focusing on sustainable recovery from the pandemic, alignment of circular economy and the SDGs, and assessment of child rights business principles.
Before that, Ayman worked for an international management consulting firm specializing in development sector projects. He led the preparation of successful proposals and contract negotiations for several global projects funded by the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Ayman obtained his MSc in Sustainability Management (MScSM) from the University of Toronto with a specialization in management. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from the United International University in Bangladesh.
