The disruption created by the UK’s deepening Brexit drama continues to confirm the scale of enormous new challenges facing leaders across the world. The impact on stability and confidence is profound and possibly irreversible. There is a fast changing ‘new normal’ of de-stabilisation and unpalatable global leadership challenges.

Why do leaders at the top in politics, C-suites and public service struggle to confront then embrace them? How can they handle new public pressures and expectations?

Our next Competent Boards webinar guest will be Nik Gowing. He is founder, director and co-author of Thinking the Unthinkable (TTU).

Thinking the Unthinkable is an independent research project into the human capacity of leaders to lead. For five years it has examined the new pressures on corporate and political leaders. Why do so many struggle as they find themselves increasingly out of touch with customers, consumers, shareholders and voters.

The latest stages of their ongoing analysis can be found on Twitter at #ThinkUnthink or the project’s web platform at www.thinkunthink.org.

Their findings are summarized in the recent Thinking the Unthinkable book co-authored with Chris Langdon (available from Amazon).

The core finding of TTU is a new and disturbing reality. The conformity which qualifies leaders for the top, disqualifies them from understanding the new scale of disruption, the implications and how to handle it. What is widely called populism is in reality what TTU labels mass ‘push-backism’.

How far does this relate to the institutional pressures on you?

If you are from the NEXTGEN, how out of touch are leaders with your expectations and aspirations? Do you want to be a leader, and how do you want leadership change to meet those expectations?

This Competent Boards webinar will reveal latest evidence on why, and how leaders must be emboldened to thrive on change. Please join us to be one of them.
