There is little doubt that an overhaul in the composition of corporate boards and how they function is both necessary and inevitable.
The reasons are not hard to find. The board of the future will have many more responsibilities than its predecessors and be accountable to many more stakeholders. Its work will be more complex, going well beyond the traditional task of reviewing financial statements and overseeing management’s performance.
It will pay closer attention to sustainability and stakeholder relationships. The board of the future will also take a longer view, less concerned about the next quarter or even the next year than about the forces that will affect the business for decades to come.
Helle Bank Jorgensen’s new book, The Future Boardroom, shows how boards can successfully manage the unprecedented challenges posed by rising trade protectionism, devastating conflicts, natural disasters, and growing inequality. The book has already become an Amazon Best Seller and is receiving praise from business leaders around the world!
